According to value-added reseller, CDW, the number of small and medium-sized businesses that are ready to make new investments in telecommunications technology has increased 10 percent since October 2010. CDW’s report stated that 49 percent of small businesses and 9 out of 10 medium-sized enterprises are ready – or have plans – to install new hardware within the next six months, and 61 percent of those same businesses plan to employ or replace new software within the next six months.

However, in spite of the growing confidence in technology investments, the same companies are still unwilling to hire more staff, and instead are opting for cloud applications and outsourcing services that take the pressure off of hiring new staff.

CDW President and Chief Operating Officer, Thomas E. Richards, believes that technology investments will become essential for companies looking to increase their productivity as the economic climate improves, adding that "Focusing on the IT refresh cycle and upgrading existing technology clearly is taking immediate precedence with decision makers over increasing IT staffing in the near term."

One service your small business might benefit from is Verizon’s new, faster FiOS Internet for Business

Verizon Communications recently debuted Verizon FiOS Internet for Business, a lightning fast Internet broadband service for small businesses that features speeds of up to 150/35Mb per second – three times faster than previous FiOS speeds.

In order to put this speed increase into perspective, Verizon states that their new FiOS service is so fast, you could essentially upload a one hour, 3Gb hi-def video in a mere 6.2 minutes, or you could download a 20 minute video or 250Mb file in only 13.3 seconds.

In addition, Verizon FiOS Internet for Business also includes Verizon Online Backup and Sharing, free Wi-Fi access, Verizon Internet Security Suite, and a personalized domain name.

Arguably the best news of all is the fact that FiOS Internet for Business is available without a contract on a $229.99 per month basis. That price drops even lower to $204.99 (excluding taxes and fees) per month for companies willing to sign a two year contract.

Verizon FiOS Internet for Business is available to small businesses and some mid-sized businesses in select areas of California, New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Florida, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia.
